Tyler Junior College welcomes students with disabilities
who have the potential for academic success in the post-secondary
educational environment.
TJC is committed to providing qualified students with disabilities
equal access to its facilities, activities and programs. Section
504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended, and the
Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) require that public
colleges and universities provide reasonable and appropriate accommodations
for otherwise qualified students with disabilities.
Accommodations may include permission to tape record lectures, relocation
of classes or programs to accessible locations, arranging special
testing locations, the use of a sign language interpreter, etc.
At TJC, accommodations are provided on an individual basis following
presentation (by the student) and assessment (by the College) of
documentation that confirms the presence of a disability that causes
a substantial limitation as defined under Section 504 and the ADA.
A Disability Review Committee has been established
at the college in order to process the student request in an efficient
and timely manner.
